American dog tick (Dermacentor variabilis (D. similis west of the Rockies)) — Transmits tularemia and Rocky Mountain spotted fever; grassy, open habitat.
Gulf Coast tick (Amblyomma maculatum) — Transmits Rickettsia parkeri rickettsiosis.
